Tractors - Toddler crafts, activities and resources

Tractor crafts

The letter T makes a simple tractor picture. Pictures can be a good way to begin to teach children about letters. This craft takes the letter T for Tractor and turns it into a simple tractor picture. Includes a printable template.

Even babies can do tractor crafts - this footprint tractor looks really good and would be a great gift for a relative, or perhaps an idea for a nursery to send home to parents.

Tractors look as though they should be easy to draw, but they can be quite difficult. There are some printable tractor templates here that will make putting together a tractor picture really easy, just print out the pieces, colour them, then assemble.

Tractor activities

John Deere have an official website for children, with online games, videos, stories, and lots of learning activities and information.

Print out some tractor colouring pages.

If you have some toy tractors then you can easily set up a play tray with some sand or dirt. If you have a toy tractor with a trailer even better, children love moving things around. You can also use toy tractor wheels to paint with, they usually make more interesting tracks than cars.

Many farms offer tractor rides. You might also find that a local pick your own farm will have a tractor to take visitors to the far side of the fields, a great opportunity for a 'free' tractor ride!

Tractor books

Tremendous Tractors (Amazing Machines) Tony Mitton, Ant Parker - A fascinating book, it's in rhyme and aimed at small children, but the subject matter is really detailed, you will learn a lot about tractors and farming from this little book!

My Terrific Tractor Book (Dk Preschool) My Terrific Tractor Book (Dk Preschool) - All about tractors, complete with tractor noises!

Tractor (Baby Touch and Feel) - A first book for babies, with lots more textures.

That's Not My Tractor - The books in this series are brilliant for babies and young toddlers. They were the first books that interested both of my babies, and they quickly learn to touch where the different textures are.

Touchy-feely Tractor (Usborne Touchy Feely Books) - This book is a next step up from the previous - still lots of different tractors to touch and feel but with a little more information.

Tractor Ultimate Sticker Book (Ultimate Stickers) - These detailed stickers will fascinate older toddlers, as well as satisfying all their interests in the different varieties of tractor.

Tractor toys

Vtech Toot Toot Driver Tractor for 12 - 24 Months (Green) - This really simple tractor toy is great for babies and younger toddlers because it is robust with no small parts. It also has plenty of music and sound effects to keep babies and toddlers interested.

Sing Along Farm Tractor - I know the main fascination for my son with most vehicles is the ability to put things in and out, and this tractor has lots of animals to load and unload into the tractor.

Little Tractor - With 12 pieces, this double-sided floor jigsaw is a great first jigsaw, although having two pictures to complete does make it a little more challenging!

Schmidt John Deere Tracter With Sprayer Jigsaw (40 pieces) + SIKU Model Tractor - A more realistic picture and more pieces make this tractor jigsaw more suitable for older toddlers. The jigsaw also includes a toy tractor.
