My son has been fascinated by fire engines since he was tiny, in fact one of his first words was 'nee nor'. They are amazing vehicles to watch, and a toy fire engine can provide so many opportunities for role play. It's also good to take the opportunity while playing to talk about fire safety with young children.
Fireman crafts
Make a really simple fireman's hat from a decorated paper plate.
Use a child's handprint to make a really sweet firemen picture.
Here are some fireman printables to make a selection of different firefighters.
Firefighter activities
Your local fire station will be more than happy to arrange a home visit from a fireman to talk about fire safety with you and your child. They can test and install smoke alarms, as well as offering general fire safety advice. Most fire stations also hold regular open days, and local fetes and carnivals will often have a fire engine in the procession or on display, maybe even the chance to go for a ride in a fire engine.
This page has lots of firefighter activites, including lots of songs to sing with your child.
If your toddler likes firemen they probably watch Fireman Sam. Here are lots of Fireman Sam activities, including colouring sheets to print.
